Back in the Game: Balios’ Comeback

When healing stalled and options ran out for this young eventer, EquiSol Red Light Therapy made the difference.

Meet Balios.

A 2018 Warmblood gelding with a heart full of try, Balios competes in the demanding world of three-day eventing—a sport that calls for equal parts athleticism, precision, and resilience. He and his owner, Rebecca Smedley, were eagerly continuing their journey together when a sudden and serious health challenge nearly brought his career to a halt.

Balios developed a serious infection deep in the sinus cavity of his skull, requiring extensive and invasive treatment. Over the course of his recovery, he underwent four surgeries—each involving drilling directly into his skull to access and treat the infected area. Despite the veterinary team’s best efforts, Balios’ healing was slow. He developed a persistent head shake, along with visible wounds on his face from repeated procedures. Rebecca multiple antibiotics and topical treatments, but nothing seemed to work. “It felt like we were running out of options,” she shared.

That’s when she decided to try something different. On the recommendation of an equine wellness expert, she introduced EquiSol’s Red Light Therapy Wrap, specifically targeting Balios’ facial area. The goal was to stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair—gently but effectively.

The results were remarkable.

“Within two weeks, we started seeing real changes,” she recalled. The wounds on Balios’ face began to heal—not just improve, but truly regenerate. Even more astonishing? His head shaking completely stopped.

Balios became visibly more comfortable and relaxed during and after each Red Light session. The therapy, applied consistently and calmly, helped break the cycle of discomfort and stagnated healing. His body was finally responding—and recovering.

Today, Balios is not just healthy—he’s thriving. He’s back in full training and showing. His journey is a testament to both perseverance and innovation.

“I honestly believe Red Light Therapy is what turned everything around,” Rebecca says, “It was the one thing that finally worked.”

Balios’ story is a powerful example of how EquiSol Red Light Therapy can make a real difference. We’re honored to be part of his journey—and can’t wait to follow his journey.
